Sport Burnaby Grant

Background

The Sport Burnaby Grant program helps sport event organizers host their events in beautiful Burnaby, BC. This financial support assists organizers who choose to stage their event using facilities, accommodations and services in Burnaby – the Sport City.

Criteria

• Event must utilize sport facilities and hotels within Burnaby
• Grants should not be required to financially operate the event
• Submission of an application does not necessarily mean funding
will be granted
• Grant allocations are dependent on funding available in the annual
Sport Burnaby budget
• Events must be planned or confirmed, applications for bids are
not eligible
• Retroactive applications for events, or incomplete applications are
not eligible
• Recreational activities, jamborees, playoffs, and league games are
not eligible
• Events must generate at least 50 room nights to be eligible
for funding

Process

Applications should be submitted a minimum of three months prior to event dates

Applications are accepted at any time of year, however, applications will be reviewed and processed quarterly by Sport Burnaby

Applicants will be notified of their application status and funding amount by Sport Burnaby

If approved for funding, applicants are required to submit a Final Report within 45 days of the event

Failure to provide the Final Report may result in ineligibility of previously approved grant funding

Within 30 days of receiving the Final Report, and contingent on verified actualized room nights with host hotel(s), funding will be provided by Sport Burnaby

The Sport Burnaby Grant Program helps sport event organizers host their events in Burnaby,BC. This financial support assists organizers who choose to stage their events using venues,accommodations, and services within Burnaby–the Sport City.

Applications will be evaluated based on several factors to determine funding amounts, including but not limited to:

  • Total number of room nights anticipated and actualized
  • Level of competition (e.g., Provincial, National, or International)
  • Economic impact and tourism benefits to Burnaby
  • Ability to leave a legacy or lasting impact within the community
  • Time of year the event is hosted
  • Opportunity for the continuation of the event in Burnaby or future hosting opportunities
  • Alignment with City Of Burnaby initiatives, such as promoting diversity, female sport, parasport, Indigenous sport, and sustainability initiatives.

  • Recognize Sport Burnaby as an event sponsor in all appropriate event marketing and communications. The Sport Burnaby logo and brand guidelines are available here.
    Please ensure all usage guidelines are followed.
  • Be responsible for all operations, management, costs, and expenses related to the event, including contracting facilities and fulfilling all contractual obligations with host hotel(s) and/or university dorms.
  • Promote the Burnaby host hotel(s) and/or dorms to event participants and spectators, ensuring all deadlines for room blocks are communicated clearly.
  • Track actualized hotel and/or dorm room nights, as this information will be required for submission in the Final Report. This can be requested from the chosen hotel(s) and/or university dorms post-event.
  • Submission Of the Final Report within 45 days Of the event.
