What We Do
We work across marketing, partnerships, events, and research to
grow Burnaby as a destination and support a visitor economy that
benefits businesses, communities, and the city as a whole.
Our Role as a Destination Management Organization
Tourism Burnaby is a non-profit destination management organization focused on growing the city as a place to visit, meet, and explore. Our work supports a strong visitor economy while helping shape how Burnaby is experienced, both by visitors and the people who live and work here.
We take a coordinated approach to tourism, working across marketing, partnerships, event development, and research. By bringing together local businesses, community partners, and industry stakeholders, we help build a destination that is well-positioned, competitive, and reflective of Burnaby itself.
At the centre of Metro Vancouver, Burnaby offers a unique balance of urban energy and natural space. Our role is to strengthen that position, supporting experiences that attract visitors year-round while ensuring tourism continues to create value for the community.
“The role of tourism in Burnaby extends far beyond visits to the city; it supports our local economy, small businesses, and the vibrancy of the community. Tourists coming to Burnaby are helping us set the foundation for the next generation of our city, and we look forward to welcoming visitors in the coming months and years.”
Tourism is a key economic engine for Burnaby, supporting local businesses and advancing strategic initiatives that shape our city’s future,” says Angie Whitfield, CEO, Burnaby Board of Trade. “One great example is the Burnaby Clean Energy Summit, which began as a half-day session and has expanded into a multi-day event thanks to our partnership with Tourism Burnaby. Initiatives like these not only draw international attention and investment but also reinforce Burnaby’s leadership in innovation and sustainability.
As a small business, welcoming visitors to our brewery is something we cherish. Over the years, we have had the opportunity to collaborate with Tourism Burnaby to host long-table dinner events and seasonal activations to add to the visitor experience. These events have been attended by everyone from locals to visitors from across Canada and beyond.
Our Areas of Focus
Destination Marketing
We promote Burnaby through integrated marketing efforts that include digital campaigns, content creation, social media, and media relations. Our focus is on telling a clear and consistent story about the city, highlighting its neighbourhoods, experiences, and events in a way that feels authentic and grounded.
Partnerships and Industry Support
Tourism Burnaby works closely with local businesses, hotels, event organizers, and community partners to support tourism across the city. We create opportunities for collaboration, provide marketing support, and help connect partners to broader initiatives that strengthen Burnaby’s tourism network.
Events and Sport Hosting
Events play a key role in attracting visitors and creating energy across the city. We support and attract a range of events, including festivals, cultural programming, sport competitions, and meetings and conferences. These events contribute to visitation, increase economic activity, and showcase Burnaby on a larger stage.
Destination Development
We work with partners to identify opportunities to enhance Burnaby’s visitor experience over time. This includes supporting new ideas, strengthening existing offerings, and ensuring the city continues to evolve as a destination in a way that aligns with long-term goals.
Research and Insights
Understanding tourism is essential to making informed decisions. We collect and analyze data related to visitor behaviour, economic impact, and industry trends, and share these insights with partners to support planning, investment, and growth.
