Article Summary
Canada will face the United States in today’s final of the NORCECA U19 Men’s Continental Volleyball Championship at the Simon Fraser University West Gym. The gold medal match at 4 p.m. will conclude the eight-team tournament that began on May 12.
The final match-ups were determined following two semifinals on Saturday.
In the first semi, Canada made quick work of Costa Rica beating them 3-0 (25-6, 25-12, 25-21) in just 50 minutes. “I thought our guys were really dialed in every phase,” said Canada Head Coach Adam Schriemer. “Overall, I’m pretty happy with the way they handled themselves.”
In the second semi, with fans supporting both teams in the stands, the United States and Mexico battled to the last point, but USA managed the sweep 3-0 (25-17, 27-25, 25-23) over its North American southern neighbours. “Mexico is a very good team and we haven’t been tested a lot yet in this tournament, and so they pushed us, which is what we needed,” said USA Head Coach Andy Read. “I could not be happier with the effort. We are going to play for the gold medal!”
Mexico will play Costa Rica for the bronze medal at 2 p.m.
