Burnaby athletes ready to rock in Newfoundland at the 2025 Canada Summer Games

Burnaby athletes hope to make their mark at the 2025 Canada Summer Games in St. John’s Newfoundland and Labrador.  The Burnaby contingent of 20 athletes, coaches and team officials is part of Team BC’s delegation of more than 500 athletes, coaches, support staff and Mission Staff.

The Games, taking place from August 8 to 21, features 19 sports. Burnaby athletes will be part of seven sports: artistic swimming, athletics (track and field), baseball, box lacrosse, canoe kayak, soccer and wrestling. Burnaby’s list includes competitors in wheelchair and Special Olympics sports.

Sport Burnaby Director Robyn Hughes is part of Team BC’s Mission Staff. “It’s an honour to be selected and to support our incredible BC athletes, coaches, and managers,” says Hughes. “I wish them all the best of luck in competition and I will be cheering them on, every step of the way.”

“After months of preparation, we are so excited that Team BC is on its way to St. John’s,” says Eron Main, Chef de Mission for Team BC at the upcoming games. “This is an exceptional group of athletes, coaches, and volunteers. We are looking forward to showing the very best of BC during this summer’s Canada Games.”

The Canada Games are a national multi-sport event held every two years, bringing together the top amateur athletes from across the country to compete for their province or territory. The Games feature a wide range of sports and provide an important development opportunity for athletes aiming to compete at higher national and international levels.

The 2025 Canada Summer Games were held in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, over an 18-day competition period. Athletes from across Canada gathered in the host city to compete in team and individual sports, with events staged at multiple venues throughout the region.

The Canada Games feature athletes representing all provinces and territories, typically at the youth or emerging elite level. In 2025, Team BC was one of the participating delegations, made up of more than 500 athletes, coaches, and support staff, including a Burnaby contingent of 20 participants competing across several sports.
