- Canadian Travel Intentions (Summer 2025) – A recent Leger report highlights that 55% of Canadians plan to travel this summer. 77% are looking to stay within Canada, with British Columbia and Quebec topping the preference list. Travel to the U.S. has dropped significantly due to political, safety, and financial concerns.

- Affordability is Key (Summer 2025) – Cost of living pressures remain top of mind. Many Canadians are taking shorter trips, off-peak getaways, and traveling locally to manage budgets. Millennials and Gen Z show the strongest travel intent.
- Burnaby Resident Perceptions (2024-25) – Burnaby residents generally feel the volume of tourism is “just right”. Tourism is seen to enhance community life and contribute positively to the local economy.

- Domestic Surge (2025) – Overnight visits to BC are forecast to rise by 4.4% in 2025 by 2.4 per cent in 2026, and by an annual average of 1.3 per
cent from 2027 to 2029., led by strong local and interprovincial travel. Destination BC’s “Make the Trip Home” campaign and negative U.S. travel sentiment are boosting domestic demand. (Source: Conference Board of Canada, July 2025)
- U.S. and Overseas Trends – U.S. overnight visits are expected to decline -1.6% in 2025 before rebounding strongly in 2026. Overseas visits remain flat this year but are projected to grow nearly +10% in 2026, with Asia-Pacific markets like China recovering slowly. (Source: Conference Board of Canada, July 2025)
- Capacity Constraints – BC’s hotel occupancy is averaging 61.6% in 2025, with Vancouver near 70%. Accommodation supply challenges, labour shortages, and new short-term rental regulations could strain capacity and raise prices. (Source: Conference Board of Canada, July 2025)
